His original cord hanger was missing, so we found some antique red cording and carefully secured it to his head inside his hat, at its original attachment point. He is unmarked. Original fur beard had worn off and at some point in his life someone carefully added cotton batting, so we have priced it accordingly. He is holding a paper tree sprig, has a painted clay face and mache hands and feet. He has a felt jacket over hollow cardboard body that opens above the boots. He would display nicely with belsnickles and other early Christmas treasures. These antique items have aged gracefully; they are presented to you in their as-found condition. Sleigh is glittered and papered cardboard with chip-tinsel trim. We carefully repaired two damaged cellophane panes with red cellophane of a similar vintage. 	This soft and cuddly 1920s Japanese-made Santa will look right at home hanging from a traditional Victorian feather tree, or position him under your tree (propped up against the tree stand or inside a sled) with your other treasures. His wire-frame body is lavishly wrapped with thick fluffy cotton batting in lovely faded red. His feet are nicely wrapped in black cotton batting, and he is trimmed in chenille with paper belt and cotton beard. Hand painted details on his expressive face are very nice. Our favorite thing is that his head comes off to reveal a hollow body where Victorians stored treats! Santa has wonderfully painted Mache head, felt fabric covered cardboard body, rabbit's fur beard (however the fur has worn off over time), clay boots, paper belt, and feathertree sprig (original berry was missing so we added a nice early vintage one). He is armless, as this is the the way made many of these early decorations were constructed. This antique item has aged gracefully; it is presented to you in its as-found condition.
