William G. Dever, distinguished professor of Near Eastern archaeology at Lycoming College, is professor emeritus of Near Eastern archaeology and anthropology at the University of Arizona. Professor Dever is perhaps best-known as the excavator of Gezer, where he served as director from 1966 to 1971. He received his Ph.D from Harvard University and served for three years as the director of the William F. Albright Institute of Archaeological research. He is author of numerous books and hundreds of scholarly papers, including Who Were the Early Israelites and Where Did They Come From?
