David Noel Freedman, formerly the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Michigan, holds an endowed chair in Hebrew biblical studies at the University of California, San Diego. Freedman is editor in chief of the Anchor Bible Project, which includes the Anchor Bible series, the Anchor Bible Dictionary and the Anchor Bible Reference Library. He is a member of the editorial advisory board of Bible Review, to which he contributes insightful readings of biblical texts. Freedman's most recent books are the two-volume set of collected works titled Divine Commitments and Human Obligation (Eerdmans, 1997) and Studies in Ancient Yahwistic Poetry (with Frank Moore Cross; Eerdmans/Dove, 1997).
